Question: Are tattoos or earpiercing prohibited?

Mesora: Tattoos are prohibited, as they are the way of the heathens, and Judaism opposes above all else, any connection with idolatry which is heathen in practice. Additionally, tattoos only serve to glorify the body, and which in direct opposition to Judaism's goal of glorifying God. Piercing one's ears however is not an idolatrous practice.
